In a strategic move aimed at expanding software coding capabilities and digital engineering expertise, Germany’s BMW Group and India’s Tata Technologies have joined forces to establish a joint venture (JV) in India. The agreement, signed between the two global entities, sets the stage for the creation of a software and IT development hub across key locations in Pune, Bangalore, and Chennai.

Embodying the ethos of ‘Engineer in India for the World,’ the JV seeks to leverage Tata Technologies’ extensive digital engineering prowess and talent pool in India. With a primary focus on strategic software development, the collaboration aims to address the burgeoning demands of software-defined vehicles (SDV) and enhance offerings in automotive software, automated driving, infotainment, and digital services.

Strategic Expansion in Software Development

Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President of Software and E/E Architecture at BMW Group, emphasized the significance of the collaboration, stating, “Our collaboration with Tata Technologies will accelerate our progress in the field of the software-defined vehicle. In international comparison, India boasts a large number of talents with outstanding software skills, who can contribute to our software competence.”

The BMW Group’s Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President of BMW Group IT, Alexander Buresch, highlighted the success of the company’s international DevOps hubs and expressed optimism about expanding their footprint in India through this partnership.
